I hope everyone had a fantastic summer! I know I sure did, and I actually spent quite a lot of time off of social media focusing on family, books and beach time.
Even social media managers get tired of social media from time to time. Taking a break from socials (without announcing it to the world - my biggest pet peeve 😏) is a fantastic idea over the summer and around the holidays. People are much less attached to their phones when it's holiday time.
You may have noticed your REACH is down compared to last year or even six months ago. One way we can combat this is to learn the importance of "watch time" as it pertains to video content and carousels.
The more (longer) people stay engaged with your content, i.e., swiping or watching all the way through, signals to the algorithm that this is high-value and will perform better from a metrics perspective.
This is nothing new, but what holds our attention has changed compared to the glory days of Instagram.

Here are a few things to try to improve your watch time:
Keep your content simple, shareable, and specific.
Tailor a viral 'HOOK' to your niche.
Here are a few HOOK ideas
For a weight loss dietitian: "POV: You're frustrated with ____ [ex: endless fad diets], but then you ____ [ex: find a science-backed, sustainable plan] and finally see real results."
For a small shop owner, "POV: You love ____ [e.g., browsing big box stores], but then you ____ [e.g., stumble upon our handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces] and feel the difference in quality."
For a restaurant owner: "POV: You usually ____ [ex: eat out at chain restaurants], but then you ____ [ex: taste our farm-to-table dishes] and savour the difference!"
For a gym owner: "POV: You're motivated by ____ [ex: home workouts], but then you ____ [ex: join our gym and experience a new level of energy and results]."
Spend a little time drafting some HOOKS you can use in your videos. Getting right to the point is crucial to ensure people don't just scroll on by.
