Barbie Dreams and Autumn Schemes: Exploring the Barbie Movie & October Content Ideas

HAPPY SPOOKY SEASON! 🎃

I.LOVE.HALLOWEEN full stop. It could be my love of dressing up and feeling like a kid. Speaking of nostalgia, did you see the Barbie movie over the summer? Well, let me just say I love love loved it and saw it twice. I am continuing my "Barbie summer" vibe straight into Fall.

I couldn't find a pink sports car in Collingwood, so I had to settle for this.

Did you know the Barbie movie spent $150M marketing the film? 😮 The first time I read that, I had to back up and reread it. Their success in being one of the most profitable movies..ever? Certainly, by a female director, comes down to a few components:

🩷 The power of recognizable branding - Barbie's marketing campaign leveraged one of the most recognizable brand colours worldwide – bright pink.

🩷 Nostalgia marketing: Their marketing beautifully tapped into nostalgia, triggering memories of childhood playtimes with the iconic doll.

🩷 Adapting to a changed culture with a dash of social discourse: Barbie's marketing campaign demonstrated a keen awareness of societal changes and cultural shifts. HA! I'm still singin' "I'm just Ken" anytime a man annoys me.

What can you take away from the Barbie movie's marketing success?

We should refresh our brand's identity while staying true to our essence. Meaning feel free to try new things with your social media. Test the waters, and avoid getting caught up in the trap of throwing up the same posts each month. All while staying true to you and your business.
